Simi Sidhu Writes: Notes on identity, culture, expectation and dreams
Writing from the crossroads
Writing from the crossroads
Simi Sidhu is a debut novelist querying The Unfolding of Us. Set between India and England, and spanning 1947-73, the novel follows a Punjabi family through heart-wrenching twists and turns as they navigate Partition and emigrate to England, where their web of lies unravels.
As the family strives to create a brighter future, splintered bonds expose their broken relationships. Can they overcome the demons of history, or will those dark shadows forever define their destiny?
Her writing explores themes of identity and belonging, and the tension between societal expectation and dreams. With the 80th anniversary of Partition in 2027, Simi shines a light on the experiences of the early South-Asian immigrants who, still recovering from their ordeals, were thrust into a world of hostility in England.
